What can you use the NHS App for?
The NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services using your smartphone, tablet or computer. It can help you manage your healthcare without needing to contact the practice by telephone.
Once you have set up the NHS App and verified your identity, you can use it to access a range of services and information. The services available to you will depend on your GP practice and the NHS services you use.
Depending on the services available to you, you can use the NHS App to:
- View information from your GP health record, including health conditions, medicines, allergies, vaccinations and documents.
- View your test results.
- View and manage upcoming appointments.
- Order repeat prescriptions.
- Receive messages from your GP practice and other NHS services.
- Use NHS 111 online to get help with urgent medical problems.
- Find NHS services near you.
- Access trusted NHS health information and advice.
- Manage NHS services for someone else, such as a child or family member, where appropriate access has been set up.
Some services may not be available to every patient. This depends on your GP practice, the services they provide online and the level of access you have been given.
Who can use the NHS App?
You can use the NHS App if you are aged 13 or over and registered with a GP surgery in England or the Isle of Man. If you are aged 13 to 15, you will need to contact your GP surgery to arrange access to GP online services before you can use the NHS App.
How to download the NHS App
The NHS App is free to download for Apple and Android devices. Make sure you download the official NHS App, which displays the NHS logo and is provided by NHS Digital.

How to set up the NHS App
When you first open the NHS App, you will need to set up an NHS login if you do not already have one. You will need an email address and a mobile or landline telephone number.
You will be asked to confirm your email address and telephone number using security codes. You can then link the app to your NHS services.
To access your GP health record and other personal information, you will need to verify your identity. You may be able to do this using photo ID, or by using information provided by your GP surgery.

Using the NHS App on a computer
You do not have to use a smartphone or tablet. You can also access NHS App services by logging in through the NHS website using a computer or other device with a supported web browser.
